Hello I'm Brandy I am new to your group. I am 36 and I have been diagnosed with arthritis, bone spurs, muscle spasms, and most recent degenerative disc desease in my back. I have tried the ciropractor but he said he couldnt do anything for me he told me I have the back of a 60 year old. I also work at a nursing home as a cna thats hard on me but I love my job. I cant wait to meet people who are going thru the same problens I am.

Have you ever tried Yoga? Since you have the back of a 60 year old I will give you this example. There was a couple in a yoga class I took that was in their 70s, in the beginning I heard they basically had very little flexibility and did a lot of modified poses in a chair, after doing yoga for awhile they were able to move to the floor. My mother's instructor is in her 80s, so don't accept your back age as some sort of life sentence. Here are some tips pertaining to yoga and your conditions from Livestrong.com:

Yoga for Arthritis
Arthritis is an inflammatory condition of the joints that can lead to stiffness, fatigue and pain. Specific yoga poses can relieve the symptoms of the condition. Poses like hero, downward-facing dog, corpse, triangle, standing forward bend, supported bridge, headstand, staff, bound angle, tree, wide angle, and half moon are beneficial for all types of arthritis. Practice with an experienced yoga teacher and ask for assistance with your particular type of arthritis.

Yoga for Degenerative Disc Disease
Degenerative disc disease is not really a disease at all. It is a condition causing pain from a damaged disc. The natural aging process can also cause the discs to degenerate. Although individual severity may vary, yoga is likely to bring relief. Downward-facing dog pose lengthens and reduces pressure on the spine. While on hands and knees, lift the knees off the floor, forming the body into a V-shape. Press the palms evenly into the floor to protect the wrists. Hold the pose for 30 to 60 seconds, rest and repeat twice.

I would practice with an experienced yoga instructor that is knowledgeable in teaching students with the conditions you have. I hope with time this will help.

Cheers-
CK

Thank you so very much. I only take ibuprofen and tylenol for pain I have hydro but I hardly ever take them Im scared I have in the past been addicted to them. Right now the pain latley has been almost unbearable. I am a CNA at a nursing home so that isnt helping at all. I am curious I had the flu (or something similar) for 1 1/2 weeks sence then I just want to come home and sleep I have no energy and I hurt so bad. Im wondering if the increased pain is due to me being sick earlier this month. Before I got sick I was walking 5 miles at least 4 days a week with a dvd now I Just dont feel good. I hope this gets better soon. Thanks again

You take IBUs what dosage, for years. I took (3) 800 milligrams a day. That and exercise worked for about 10 years till the deteriation got too bad. I would say your increase in pain could be from being sick for so long. I know it is so hard, but you need to get to moving as soon as you can. Do you see a pain management Dr. if not it is time to make an appt. Not for pain med but to see if injections would calm down your flar up. I use a lot of home remedies. Epson salt is great for muscle spasms. Put in a bowl with water and a towel microwave as hot as you can take and put it on the area that is giving you fits cover with another towel and repeat several times. Also there is a supplement called CowMax you can look it up; it is calcium citrate and magnesium it will help relax muscles works really good.
